About the BYD Atto 3

The Atto 3 was the car that introduced BYD to Europe, and it won over buyers with value rather than badge appeal. It sits on the e-Platform 3.0 with BYD's own Blade lithium-iron-phosphate battery - a chemistry chosen for safety and long life rather than peak density - and drives the front wheels through a single 150 kW motor.

Inside, the Atto 3 is deliberately unusual: a rotating 12.8-inch touchscreen, a guitar-string door pocket and a wave-shaped dashboard. It is a family car first, with a spacious cabin and a flat floor, which makes it easy to hide a small tracking phone.

Like every modern BYD it is permanently online through the maker's connected services. That is exactly where an independent layer helps - see Private by design below.

Where to mount a tracking phone in the Atto 3

  • Under-floor boot compartment - a deep, carpeted well under the load floor; the most discreet spot.
  • Under the front passenger seat - flat, dry and close to the USB ports.
  • Centre console tray - easy to reach for battery swaps, hidden when closed.
  • Power - use the USB-A/C ports or the 12 V socket; avoid tapping the high-voltage system.
  • Signal - keep a hand's width from the seat rails; the panoramic roof passes GPS fine.

Private by design - no manufacturer cloud, no foreign servers

Modern cars, and especially most Chinese EVs, are permanently connected: the maker's own app knows where your BYD is and routes that data through its cloud, very often on the other side of the world. Our approach is the opposite. Tracking runs entirely on a phone you own, and your location history lives in your own SpySat account. We do not pass it to the car maker's servers and we do not send it to any foreign - including Chinese - data centre. You decide who can see where your car is.

  • Independent - works without the manufacturer's app, SIM or subscription.
  • Owner-controlled - the location history belongs to your account, not to a vendor.
  • No third-country routing - nothing is relayed through foreign (incl. Chinese) clouds.
  • Switchable - delete an endpoint and the data stream stops instantly.

Frequently asked questions

Can I track a BYD Atto 3 without BYD's app?

Yes. Our solution never touches BYD's connected services - a spare Android phone with the SpySat app is entirely independent of the manufacturer's platform and SIM.

Does this send my location to Chinese servers?

No. The SpySat app and our platform keep your location history in your own account. We do not relay it to the car maker's cloud or to any foreign, including Chinese, data centre.

Where is the best hidden spot in an Atto 3?

The under-floor compartment in the boot is the best all-round hiding place; the area under the front passenger seat is the best alternative near power.

How much does it cost to run?

The app and platform are free. Your only cost is the phone's data - a cheap prepaid SIM is enough. There is no subscription and no hardware to buy.

Will it work while the car is parked at an airport for a week?

Yes. Keep the phone on charge from the car's 12 V socket or a power bank, enable battery care, and you keep a live position and full history the whole time.

Does the Atto 3's rotating screen or software affect tracking?

Not at all. Tracking happens on the separate phone, so BYD's infotainment updates and the rotating screen are irrelevant to it.

Can I track more than one vehicle on one account?

Yes. One free account holds as many device endpoints as you like - an Atto 3, a second family car and a van - each with its own name and PIN.

Is it legal to track my own Atto 3?

You can track a vehicle you own or are authorised to use. Be transparent with anyone who shares the car; used that way it is a normal, legitimate owner tool.
