About the Jaecoo 7

The Jaecoo 7 - also badged J7 - is the car that put the Jaecoo name on the UK map. Jaecoo is an export-only brand from Chinese giant Chery, launched in 2023 and sold alongside its sister marque Omoda. The 7 is a compact, boxy five-door crossover with a deliberately rugged look that invites comparisons with the Range Rover Evoque, yet it undercuts most rival family SUVs on price and equipment.

Buyers get a choice of three powertrains: a 1.6-litre turbo petrol with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox (front- or all-wheel drive), a self-charging hybrid, and a plug-in hybrid with a relatively large 18.4 kWh LFP battery that will run on electricity alone for up to about 56 miles and even accepts DC fast charging - unusual for a PHEV in this class. It is a family car first: a 4500 mm body, a roomy cabin and a boot that grows past 1200 litres with the seats folded, which makes it easy to hide a small tracking phone out of sight.

If this is your first Chinese car, it is worth knowing that the brand's connected services reach back to the maker's cloud, and by default your trips are logged there. That is exactly where an independent, owner-controlled layer helps - see Private by design below.

Where to mount a tracking phone in the Jaecoo 7

  • Under-floor boot compartment - a deep, carpeted well under the load floor; the most discreet spot.
  • Under the front passenger seat - flat, dry and close to the USB ports.
  • Centre console tray - easy to reach for battery swaps, hidden when closed.
  • Power - use the USB-A/C ports or the 12 V socket; avoid tapping the high-voltage system.
  • Signal - keep a hand's width from the seat rails; the panoramic roof passes GPS fine.

Private by design - no manufacturer cloud, no foreign servers

Modern cars, and especially most Chinese EVs, are permanently connected: the maker's own app knows where your Jaecoo is and routes that data through its cloud, very often on the other side of the world. Our approach is the opposite. Tracking runs entirely on a phone you own, and your location history lives in your own SpySat account. We do not pass it to the car maker's servers and we do not send it to any foreign - including Chinese - data centre. You decide who can see where your car is.

  • Independent - works without the manufacturer's app, SIM or subscription.
  • Owner-controlled - the location history belongs to your account, not to a vendor.
  • No third-country routing - nothing is relayed through foreign (incl. Chinese) clouds.
  • Switchable - delete an endpoint and the data stream stops instantly.

Frequently asked questions

Can I track a Jaecoo 7 without the Jaecoo app?

Yes. Our solution never touches Jaecoo's connected services - a spare Android phone with the SpySat app is entirely independent of the manufacturer's platform and SIM.

Does this send my location to Chinese servers?

No. The SpySat app and our platform keep your location history in your own account. We do not relay it to the car maker's cloud or to any foreign, including Chinese, data centre.

Where is the best hidden spot in a Jaecoo 7?

The under-floor compartment in the boot is the best all-round hiding place; the area under the front passenger seat is the best alternative near power.

How much does it cost to run?

The app and platform are free. Your only cost is the phone's data - a cheap prepaid SIM is enough. There is no subscription and no hardware to buy.

Does the Jaecoo 7's connected system conflict with a separate tracker?

Not at all. Tracking happens on the separate phone, so the car's own infotainment and over-the-air updates are irrelevant to it - the two systems never interfere.

Will it work while the car is parked at an airport for a week?

Yes. Keep the phone on charge from the car's 12 V socket or a power bank, enable battery care, and you keep a live position and full history the whole time.

Can I track more than one vehicle on one account?

Yes. One free account holds as many device endpoints as you like - a Jaecoo 7, a second family car and a van - each with its own name and PIN.

Is it legal to track my own Jaecoo 7?

You can track a vehicle you own or are authorised to use. Be transparent with anyone who shares the car; used that way it is a normal, legitimate owner tool.
