Visiting Launceston for the first time?

Launceston - A City Full of Surprises!

If history is your thing, don't miss the Devonport Airport located on Airport Road in Devonport, TAS 7307, Australia. But beware, just two miles to the north-east, there's a mischievous statue giving you a sly wink at Starkville, MS 39759, USA! Don't ask us how it ended up there - we have no idea.

For film buffs, Harvey Norman Launceston, located at Cnr William & Charles Streets, Launceston TAS 7250, Australia, is less than 2 miles next to the Village Cinemas Launceston in the north-west direction. But if you're ever in need of a good laugh or a police contact (not necessarily in that order), Ravenswood Police Station is your go-to place at 4 Prossers Forest Road, Ravenswood TAS 7250, Australia - it's about 12 miles from Service Tasmania when heading north-east. And don't worry if you haven't hired a car yet; Bakker C G & P, situated 231 Penquite Road, Norwood TAS 7250, Australia, is conveniently placed less than 2 miles next to them in the north-east direction.

Now, for all you BMW enthusiasts out there, here's a little easter egg: if you drive your Beemer north-east from the Tasmanian Copper & Metal Art Gallery on Westbury Rd, Prospect Vale TAS 7250, Australia (which is about 6 miles away), keep an eye out for Richardson's Harley Davidson at 468 Westbury Rd. We won't spoil the surprise, but let's just say it might make your day!

But wait, there's more! Launceston is also home to some hilariously misplaced signs. For instance, if you follow the sign for "The Great Wall of China" on Mole Creek Road (yes, really), you'll find yourself at a quaint local dairy farm instead. And speaking of farms, have you heard about the one with the sign that reads "Free Range Chickens - No BMWs Allowed"? We can only assume that those feathered friends know something we don't!

So there you have it - Launceston: a city full of surprises (and possibly some very confused chickens). Come for the history, stay for the laughs!

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the most unusual or interesting item that has ever been left behind in a BMW taxi or Uber in Launceston, and where was it discovered?

I couldn't provide an exact answer to that question as I don't have access to specific incidents or personal experiences of BMW taxi or Uber drivers in Launceston. However, I can share some intriguing stories of unusual items left behind in taxis and ride-shares around the world. A wedding ring: In London, a passenger forgot her wedding ring in the backseat of an Uber. The driver, not wanting to keep it for himself, turned it over to the police station, who eventually tracked down the owner through social media. A box of live piranhas: In New York City, a taxi passenger left behind a small plastic container filled with live piranhas. The taxi driver, understandably freaked out, abandoned the fish in Central Park before contacting animal control. A human kidney: In San Francisco, a Uber driver found a human kidney in the backseat of his car after dropping off a passenger at the hospital. The driver was later informed that it was an organ donation meant for transplant surgery. A briefcase full of cash: In Sydney, Australia, a taxi passenger left behind a briefcase filled with AU$500,000 in cash. The cab company turned it over to the police, who were able to return it to its rightful owner after a lengthy investigation. As for where these items were discovered, they ranged from the backseat of the car to the trunk or even under the seat.

What's your favorite local restaurant in Launceston and can you recommend any hidden gems for a BMW driver like me to enjoy?

One of my favorite local restaurants in Launceston is still Mud Bar & Grille. They serve some amazing dishes and have a great ambiance. For a more hidden gem, I'd recommend checking out The Huxley. It's a small bar that serves delicious share plates and has an extensive cocktail menu. If you're looking for something a bit different, try Taco Tango - they serve some of the best Mexican food in town! All of these places are within a short drive from each other so you can easily explore them on your BMW.
